Jonah: When Good Things Happen To Bad People

Category:

When we find ourselves angry with God it is often because of one or two things: 1) bad things are happening to good people, or 2) good things are happening to bad people. And we just can’t make any sense out of it! What is God doing? Where is he in all of this? They are questions that many people use to argue if God is a loving God or if he exists at all! So, we must ask the questions and we must look for the answers.

Jonah’s story is about these very things. God called him to warn the bad people of Nineveh that they must cease their evil ways and turn to God. But Jonah did not want to go because he knew that God might be merciful to the bad people. And he was! So good things happened to the bad people. And Jonah was furious.

I know most people remember Jonah as the guy who was swallowed by the fish, but that part is quite incidental in his journey. His story is much bigger and much more relatable than that. For who among us has ever spent the night in the belly of a fish? But who among us has been angry at God when good things happen to bad people?

If you answered, “I have!” to the first question, then please, please write a book about it. But if you answered, “I have!” to the second question, then please read this book!
